The Audio Engineering Society (AES) was formed in 1948. They held their first Convention in 1949, and published selected papers in "Audio Engineering" (later just "Audio") magazine. In 1953 the Society began publishing their own "AES Journal". In 1957, they began encouraging all authors to submit a text of their presentation, and these were printed and sold at the conventions as "preprints" (now called "Convention Papers"). These are all available for purchase from the AES.
However, many of the preprints submitted were never published -- too commercial, or too "thin" in content; and some were just overlooked. We have collected all of the unpublished preprints by Ampex authors, and received permission from the AES to reprint them here.
I was the most prolific of the Ampex Audio authors, and you will find a bibliography of my papers at the MRL website.
You will also find many interesting papers on analog magnetic tape recording on the AES Historical Committee site.
